Manila, Philippines
For more than 3 decades Joey Ayala has survived and thrived as a writer-composer-performer-workshop facilitator. His life mission statement reads “ I use my playfulness and creativity in the fields of the arts and education towards a humane and peaceful world.” His musical arrangements using various indigenous and unusual instruments captured the attention of the public in the early 90s. His works mark a unique spot in the history of Philippine arts as an integration of lyric philosophy, vernacular music, and the exploration of identity - of what it means to be “indigenous”.
