Rock With You

A l’orée de la décennie 80, Michael Jackson n’a pas encore atteint l’âge de la majorité aux Etats-Unis mais il est déjà une star adulée de tous. Lui et ses grands frères ont enflammé les dancefloors avec leur groupe The Jackson Five sous le contrôle du puissant label Motown pendant plus de dix ans.
En 1975, Michael entame sa carrière solo. Après quatre albums parus sur Motown, il choisit la liberté en contactant le producteur le plus en vue de l’époque, Quincy Jones. Ce magicien du son l’aidera à créer Off The Wall, un des albums les plus remarquables des années 1970, mélange « hot » de funk, de disco, de pop et de soul, qui affolera les radios, les disquaires et les discothèques dès sa sortie en 1979.
« Rock With You » en est le titre-phare. Michael Jackson offre une performance vocale qui donne à entendre son phrasé unique. Et le jeune prodige de la pop est bien entouré. Rod Temperton un Anglais totalement inséré dans la scène soul/funk américaine compose et écrit la chanson. Il sera aussi l’artisan de l’immense « Thriller » trois ans plus tard. Les musiciens du groupe Rufus l’accompagnent pour un résultat ultra groovy.
« Rock With You » est une promesse. Celle de danser et d’avoir la fièvre, le samedi soir ou quand l’envie vous prend. Le morceau marque la fin d’une époque, celle du disco, et le début d’une autre, tout aussi paillettes, dominée par « The King Of Pop ».
